What is White Flag?
When the weather gets below 35 degrees between November 15th - April 15, the Homeless Coalition of Southern Indiana sponsors a volunteer-staffed White Flag Emergency Shelter for men, women, and families during inclement weather. All communities members in need of a warm place to sleep are welcome.
While we may be warm and snuggling into our beds during the winter times, there is a 100% chance that someone in our city is without such privilege. For the 2020/2021 season we served over 959 guests and shelter for 68 days.
The Coalition provides detailed training to our Volunteer staff to ensure proper care and safety when working with materials or individuals. Volunteers are asked to participate in shifts, from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM via SignUpGenius registration.
COVID-19 Policy and Procedures. HCSI will be following HUD and CDC policies and recommendations on preventing the spread of infectious diseases within the emergency shelter to ensure the safety of White Flag guests, volunteers, and HCSI staff. Read more about our policy and procedures HERE.
